چکیده

Upon the addition of antibody to measles virus, measles virus antigens expressed on the surface of infected cells can be modulated from the cell's membrane in vitro. Removal of measles virus antigens from the surface of cells occurs relatively rapidly and is accompanied by a parallel reduction in the ability of antibody and complement to lyse these cells. Modulation of surface viral antigens can occur in the absence of cap formation and is fully reversible once measles virus antibodies are removed from culture medium. Protracted exposure of acutely infected cells to measles virus antibodies results in a population of cells that exhibit normal cytomorphology and growth behavior. These cells continue to express measles virus antigens internally, but not at the cell surface, and are refractory to immune lysis. Once antiviral antibody is removed, measles virus antigens again appear on the cell surface, giant cell and syncytial formation occur, and cell death follows. These observations may explain the persistence of virus in spite of a vigorous host antiviral immune response in certain chronic infections of man.

Immature CD4+CD8+ Thymocytes Are Preferentially Infected by Measles Virus in Human Thymic Organ Cultures

Cells of the human immune system are important target cells for measles virus (MeV) infection and infection of these cells may contribute to the immunologic abnormalities and immune suppression that characterize measles. The thymus is the site for production of naïve T lymphocytes and is infected during measles. To determine which populations of thymocytes are susceptible to MeV infection and w...

Natural measles causes prolonged suppression of interleukin-12 production.

Among vaccine-preventable diseases, measles is the preeminent killer of children worldwide. Infection with measles virus (MV) is associated with prolonged suppression of cell-mediated immune responses, a phenomenon that is thought to underlie the susceptibility to secondary infections that accounts for most measles-related mortality. Interleukin (IL)-12 is critical for the orchestration of cell...

Modulation of immune system function by measles virus infection: role of soluble factor and direct infection.

Measles virus infection can result in a variety of immunologic defects. We have begun studies to determine the basis for the lack of immune responsiveness to antigen and mitogen following infection. Here we present data showing that Epstein-Barr virus-transformed B-cell lines infected with measles virus produce a soluble factor that can inhibit antigen-specific T-cell proliferation and inhibit ...

تعدیل پاسخ ایمنی سلولی متعاقب سوختگی در مدل حیوانی موش Balb/c

Background: Infection is the major cause of death in thermal injury patients. Severe suppression of the immune system is the major cause of infection following burn injury. The aim of this study was to modulate the cell-mediated immune response by the use of cimetidine and pyrimethamine in an animal burn model. Materials and Methods: Male Balb/c mice were anesthetized, and given a 10% total ...
